How long must ground beef be cooked?

According to the FDA Food Code, restaurants are required to boil ground beef to 155 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 seconds. However, the CDC and the USDA recommend that people cook ground beef to a temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Because it is easier to adhere to one standard (temperature) than it is to adhere to two, different recommendations have been made for customers (temperature and time).

IMPORTANT:  Potatoes can be pre-boiled the day before roasting.
